CAMPAIGNERS appear to be on the verge of winning their long battle to have parking restrictions introduced outside a Leek medical centre.
Bas Pickering, vice chairman of the Patient Participation Group at Moorlands Medical Centre, in Regent Street, has warned for some time that lives are being put at risk by motorists who park opposite the entrance to the centre.
Mr Pickering said ambulances called to take seriously ill patients to hospital from the centre have been held up by the parking problem. On one occasion an ambulance was trapped at the centre for more than half-an-hour.
Staffordshire County Council has now confirmed it has plans to introduce parking restrictions to tackle the situation.
County highways leader Mark Deaville said yellow lines are set to be laid after a public consultation. Notices are due to go out on January 11.
