HS2 could provide a boost for the Staffordshire Moorlands economy

COMMUNITY leaders are optimistic HS2 could put Leek on track for a connection to Britain’s major rail network.

It is thought a ‘Northern Gateway’ partnership between seven local authorities could signal a re-opening of the Leek-Stoke line to passenger and freight traffic.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has joined cross-border regional Growth Fund strategy to maximise the opportunities presented by the controversial high-speed project.

The district authority’s executive director Dai Larner says HS2 rail link between London and the West Midlands and Leeds and Manchester could provide a financial boost to the region.
