Cheadle firefighter retires after almost 50 years service

ONE of Staffordshire’s longest-serving retained firefighters has retired after approaching 50 years service.

Crew manager Dave Edge, 67, has attended thousands of ‘shouts’ (call-outs) from his home town fire station, Cheadle, since joining Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service part-time in January 1970.

He combined his role as a firefighter while in full-time work as a coal miner and a bus driver.

The county’s chief fire officer Becci Bryant made a special presentation to Dave to mark his retirement from the service.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is currently recruiting retained firefighters for the Cheadle area.
