LEEK and Staffordshire opening bowler Mitchell Spencer’s dreams of making cricket a first-class cricket are close to becoming a reality.
The 24 year old, who joined Leek from North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League rivals Moddershall last season, has been named in Warwickshire squad jetting off to the United Arab Emirates for a 13-day training camp.
Spencer has been training with the Bears at their Edgbaston HQ over the winter after featuring in the county’s 2nd XI last summer.
During their stay in Dubai the Bears will play a two-day friendly against Worcestershire as well as engaging in a Twenty20 tournament.
Spencer, who has also played for Northants 2nd XI, hopes to follow in the footsteps of another Leek player, Alex Mellor, whose performances for his club and county earned a contract with Warwicks in 2015.
