Leek men’s hockey players face a dramatic end to the season

LEEK Men’s Hockey Club’s future in Conference North will be decided this weekend.

It’s going to take a dramatic sequence of results for them to keep national league status.

Anything less than a victory at home to third-placed Olton & Warwicks andĀ  a heavy beating for Oxton by second-placed Bowdon will deny Leek a relegation play-off place.

Leek did themselves no favours by being held to draw 2-2 by fellow strugglers Oxton last weekend.

It was a cruel result given that Oxton’s second goal came from a controversial passage of play.

The umpires failedĀ to spot an Oxton player lashing out at Leek’s Kieran Heath during the build-up: a game-stopping incident which would have initiated a straight red card for the offender.

Leek’s chances of avoiding relegation to the Midlands Premier after just one season back in the top flight are hanging by a thread.
