CHEADLE Running Club star Rebecca Harrison has won Stafford Half Marathon for a fifth time.
Harrison held off stiff opposition in Sunday’s breezy conditions to cross the finishing line in 1 hour 25 minutes and 54 seconds, almost a minute clear of her only real challenger, Deborah Thomas (Trentham RC).
The race attracted a record entry of 4,000 runners, reflecting the popularity of the event which was celebrating in its 33rd year.
College lecturer Harrison (pictured left ) said: “I went into the race feeling more confident to lead throughout. I ran my own race and it’s now all looking good for the London Marathon last month.”
Harrison finished the main race two places behind her fiance and fellow club member, Carl Astley, who clocked 1:25:46 in 76th spot.
Eight other Cheadle Running Club members completed the race (position and time): 223 Chris Green 1:32:35, 451 Mark Harrison 1:38:46, 478 Craig Carpenter 1:41:02, 471 Russell Williams 1:41:48, 740 Julie Hulbert 1:46:18, 1308 Mark Stoddard 1:55:07, 1496 Michelle Plant 1:59:17 and 1939 Sarah Nutter 2:06:37.
The overall race winner was Jordon Weaver (Kent AC) in 1:10: 33.
Further afield, as part of his marathon training, Cheadle Running Club’s Stuart Day recorded an excellent time of 35:40 at the Shrewsbury 10k.
