Councillors reject controversial revised Leek housing plan

STAFFORDSHIRE Moorlands District Council members have rejected controversial plans for a new housing development in Leek.

Planning officials had recommended approval of a project for 25 homes off Milltown Way, submitted by Gladmans Developments, which went before yesterday’s planning committee meeting.

However, councillors threw out the application by eight votes to two after considering objections from more than 2,000 residents.

The developers had failed with two previous bids to build up to 90 homes on land next to Pickwood Recreation Ground.

The revised scheme was submitted with a pledge to provide more than £160,000 to support local education provision, together with recreation amenities.

Sharon Chauveau, coordinator of Pickwood and Ladydale Sites (PALS), said : “Any development here, however marginally altered this time around, will still completely destroy this beautiful corner of Leek.”
