A FUND-RAISING campaign to purchase a special wheelchair for a Biddulph teenager has received a surprise boost.
Midland Expressway Limited have donated £1,000 towards a new £3,800 lightweight chair for Declan Copeland.
The M6 toll road operator was touched by the plight of Declan who was born with epilepsy and Angelman Syyndrome – a genetic condition that has left him with the mental age of a toddler.
The specially-adapted wheelchair will be a great help to the Blackfriars Academy student who is unable to walk or communicate.
It will mean Declan will be able to get himself around the house and garden without the help of his parents.
The Staffordshire-based charity Newlife, which specialises in equipment for disabled children,is also looking to support the fund-raising campaign.
