Thursday Sport: Leek seamer awarded contract by Warwickshire

LEEK seam bowler Mitchell Spencer has been given an opportunity to take the step up into first class county cricket.

The 24 year old , who has played for Staffordshire in recent seasons, has been awarded a three-month contract by Warwickshire, after making an impression as a regular member of the county’s second team.

He is the second Leek player to join the Edgbaston-based Bears, following in the footsteps of wicket-keeper/batsman Alex Mellor.

Spencer, who joined Leek from Moddershall just over 12 months ago and has also played for Northants 2nds, will be accompanying Warwickshire on their pre-season tour to Dubai.
