County’s places of worship given police protection

POLICE are patrolling mosques and churches in Staffordshire following the Finsbury Park Mosque attack in London.

Assistant Chief Constable Nick Adderley said: “We are all shocked by the appalling attack in London. The investigation is very much ongoing and we are aware that again the communities of Staffordshire are turning to us for support and reassurance.

“We have continued to maintain regular patrols around a range of locations including mosques and churches, and we are fully committed to working closely with all communities to keep them safe.

“Local policing teams have been in touch with faith leaders from all communities following the attack, to provide reassurance but also to listen to any concerns.

“We advise the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour or activity to the police, in confidence on 0800 789 321 or gov.uk/ACT or in an emergency please call 999.

“Together we can ensure that terrorists will not succeed in their attempts to divide us.”
