A50 closed between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter to allow bridge construction

MAJOR roadworks have caused the closure of the stretch of A50 between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter until 5.30am on Monday.

Traffic diversions are in place involving the B5030, A518, A51 and A34 while both east and west  carriageways are closed to traffic.

The A50 is closed between the A521 roundabout at Blythe Bridge and McDonald’s roundabout at Uttoxeter to allow a bridge construction.

Six huge steel beams are being lifted into place as part of a project to update the A50 junction with the A522 near the JCB factory at Uttoxeter.

Staffordshire County councillor Mark Winnington, cabinet member for economic growth, said: “The signposted diversion routes are there for all vehicles, including HGVs, but some people with local knowledge will use other routes.

“We’ve already done a lot of preparation work in advance so we can plan this operation into one weekend’s intense work to minimise the inconvenience.”
