Leek Town kick off with a short trip to champions Abbey Hulton United

LEEK Town kick off their programme of pre-season friendlies away to Staffs County Senior League Premier Division champions Abbey Hulton United at their Birches Head Road ground tonight (7pm).

The Abbey’s title-winning feat has earned them a place in Division One of the Hallmark Security North West Counties League this coming season.

New Leek boss Neil Baker plans to use the game to cast his eye over a number of trialists.

The game should provide an excellent work-out for Leek before their attractive clash with Stoke City U23’s at Harrison Park this Saturday.

Baker is looking forward to the Stoke visit which should attract a sizeable crowd to Harrison Park.

He said: “This is a big Stoke City town so I am sure there will be a big following of Stoke supporters.”

Sam Grimshaw has still not agreed terms with Leek for the new season and Baker has warned he will have to look at other targets if the winger hasn’t signed soon.

Baker will be talking to Grimshaw when the player returns from holiday this weekend.

He said: “I am hopeful, but if I don’t get a decision then I will have to move on.”

Fans should note that the Stoke City game has an early kick off time of 2pm.
