ENDON Riding School is to close next month after more than 40 years of equine activity.
Debbie Machin, who runs the stables with business partner Tony Asplin, blames the decision on rising costs and bureaucracy.
The 12 ponies at the stables in Stanley Moss Lane, Stockton Brook, have been found new homes.
Paralympic multi-gold medalist Sir Lea Pearson is among those who learned to ride at the school, which has given great support to Riding for the Disabled over the years.
The riding school will close on August 6 and there will be an auction there on August 19.
Planning permission for up to 10 homes on the site was granted by the district council last year.
