LEEK and District Show organisers had something extra-special to celebrate at Saturday’s colourful annual spectacle at Birchall playing fields.
It was the sight of the biggest entry of shire horses in the show’s long history – a magnificent 40.
The Show’s shire horse secretary Sheila Smith said: “We have beaten all of the county shows and broken all records for Leek Show with this year’s entry numbers.”
An equally impressive turn-out of thousands of visitors to the Show were treated to an extensive and varied programme of events, ranging from a wide range of livestock – patiently waiting to catch the eye of the judges – to dozens of trade stalls
Leek United Building Society were sponsoring the event for the fourth successive year and will continue to do so right up until 2022.
Show president and director Derek Torr said:” We have a terrific rapport with Leek United and are delighted that the Society is continuing its sponsorship.
“To have the backing of the town’s principal building society means a lot and we have the certainty of knowing that the Show’s future is secure until at least 2022.”
