TWO inmates who attacked a tutor at Werrington Young Offenders Institution have been sentenced to extra time behind bars.
Plumbing and tiling teacher Neil Scragg required hospital treatment after being repeatedly punched in the face by Ryan Youll, 18 and a youth who cannot be named.
Burglar Youll, of HMP Brinsford, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm when he appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. He was ordered to serve an additional 12 months in a young offenders institution.
The other defendant was given a six-month sentence after being summoned before a youth court.
As a result of the attack Mr Scragg has been left with a permanent scar under his eye.
Mr Scragg had only weeks before begun teaching skills to young people at the prison to help them gain employment on completion of their sentences.
