CHEADLE caused an upset by beating Meakins on their own Hanley ground in the Phoenix 15 championship final last night.
The North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League Premier Division side lost by 44 runs to their opponents from Division One.
Jimmy Sellers, pictured left, produced a fine all-round performance for Cheadle, who also had opening batsman Tom Edwards to thank for a splendid innings just seven runs short of a century.
Edwards (93) received excellent support from his fellow opening partner Sellers (42) as Cheadle ran up 158-3.
Sellers then returned 3-19 with the ball in helping to contain Meakins to 114-6 in reply.
