Police issue warning after elderly lady is robbed by a distraction thief

POLICE are warning people to be on their guard after a distraction thief stole money from an elderly lady in Uttoxeter town centre on Wednesday.

The man approached the 77-year-old lady and her husband in the car park at The Maltings at around 10.30am and asked to change some coins. When the lady opened her purse he distracted her and took a quantity of cash in notes. He then asked where the nearest dentist was and made off on foot.

The man is described as 5ft, 6ins to 5ft, 7ins tall, with a high forehead and slightly receding hair. He was wearing a light blue suit jacket and a light coloured shirt.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 225 of August 9. Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
