Blues draw an entertaining clash with Belper at Harrison Park

BOTH teams were looking to open their points account after suffering defeats on the opening day of the season, with Belper going down 1-0 at home to Basford United and Blues losing 3-1 away to league newcomers Alvechurch.

Blues went close on several occasions to taking the lead in the first half, starting with Tim Grice unleashing a tremendous 35-yard effort over the bar in the very first minute.

Kyle Blake fired against the bar from 20 yards in the 20th minute and Darren Chadwick, pictured, saw a goal-bound header cleared off the line six minutes before half-time.

Belper’s first scoring chance of the half came just before Chadwick’s near miss when Alex Steadman aimed wide of the target.

The deadlock remained unbroken in the second half but not through lack of effort by either side in an entertaining game at Harrison Park watched by over 300 fans.

Leek Town team: Chapman, Green, Fearns, Grocott, Curley, Chadwick, Stevenson, Blake, Grice, Budrys, Shelley. Subs: Maguire, Roberts, Johnson, Faulkner, Higham.

Attendance: 338.
