Police issue appeal for information after man is assaulted

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was assaulted while walking though Central Forest Park in Stoke-on-Trent at around midnight on Friday, August 18.

The 61 year-old man and a friend were returning home from a night out in Hanley when they were approached by a woman who claimed a man had hit her in the face.

A man then appeared and grabbed the 61-year-old by the throat and placed a knife to his throat, causing a small cut. The attacker then struck him across the shoulder with some sort of baton.

The man and woman then made off and got into a car, possibly an MG Rover, driven by a black man.

It is believed that the occupants of this vehicle had an altercation with other members of the public shortly afterwards in Barthomley Road, Birches Head.

Police are keen to speak to these people or anyone else who can offer information.

Anyone who can help is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 017 of August 19.
