Plans for more homes on former dyeworks site are recommended for refusal

PLANNING officers are recommending refusal of an application to build 41 homes on the site of a former textile dyeworks near Leek.

The plans for the proposed development at Leekbrook are due to go before the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council planning committee today (Thursday).

The submitted application comes 14 years after Wainhomes were granted permission for a mixed residential and industrial development on the site of the former Joshua Wardle dyeworks on Cheadle Road.

The first phase for housing was completed but now the developer is seeking permission to build 41 more homes on the remaining part of the site, off Wardle Gardens.

Planning officers are recommending refusal amid concerns over the risk of flooding and loss of employment land.

The Environment Agency and Staffordshire County Council have both also raised concerns about possible flooding.
