New post office expected to deliver to customers in November

A NEW home has quickly been found for Leek’s soon-to-close main post office.

It will be housed in the former register office on High Street.

The office will be managed by Christine and Mike Birch, who also run Westwood Post Office in the town.

Leek’s current main post office in Waitrose, on Buxton Road, will shut on Friday, September 19, a few days before the supermarket closes.

The new office has been given the stamp of approval by Post Office bosses and is expected to deliver to customers in November.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council leader Sybil Ralphs has advised and helped Mr and Mrs Birch secure the new site.

In the meantime post office users in Leek are being advised to do business at the Westwood Road office

Mrs Birch said: “Hopefully, we will employ about 10 people between the two sites and we are also looking at offering apprenticeships.

“If everything goes to plan it is hoped to open the new premises in November.”

The High Street premises are a not far from the original main post office and sorting office building on St Edward Street.
