New fully-equipped play area for children in a Moorlands village

WORK is to start on new fully-equipped children’s play area in the village of Upper Tean.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is working with Checkley Parish Council on the £30,000 -plus project.

The play area, on land off Wentlows Road, will be known as The Wentlows.

The project has been partly funded by the district council and a grant from the Derbyshire Environment Trust via the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund.

Since the Landfill Communities Trust was established, Tarmac has donated almost £16 million to local communities and projects throughout the day.

The Wentlows initiative has been championed by local district and parish councillor Colin Pearce, pictured, who said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their support. It has been a real team effort.”

Nick Atkins, estates manager at Tarmac, said: “Tarmac has operated at nearby Croxden Quarry for many years and we’re delighted to be donating to this project, which will bring a number of benefits to the local community.
