LEEK Town face a big task in maintaining their recent improved form when they take on unbeaten Cleethorpes Town at Harrison Park tomorrow (Saturday), kick off 3pm.
The seasiders are sitting pretty at the top of Division One South of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League having dropped just two points from their nine starts to date.
Those two points were squandered in a 2-2 draw with second placed Basford United.
Blues boss Neil Baker was at the game casting his eye over the two teams.
“Cleethorpes are looking very good indeed. They are very well organised, which is probably why they have only conceded six league goals this season,” he said.
Cleethorpes are new to the league after being promoted as North East Counties League Premier Division champions.
The north Lincolnshire side were also last season’s beaten FA Vase finalists, losing 4-0 to South Shields at Wembley.
Blues go into the game with back-to-back wins to their credit – a 1-0 victory at Carlton Town last weekend, followed up with a 3-0 home defeat of Sheffield FC on Tuesday night.
LEEK Town Ladies travel to Atherstone Rovers in the West Midlands Regional Women’s League this Sunday (2pm).
Ian Smith’s team opened their new season in Division One North with a 4-1 victory at home to Tamworth Ladies last weekend.
“We played some good football and it was also pleasing to see players returning from injury. It was an important and well-deserved three points,” said Ian.
Goals from Jules Kendrick (2), Michaela Lockett and Lacey May-Smith got Leek off to their winning league start.
THERE are no Premier Division fixtures in the Staffordshire County Senior League tomorrow.
This is due to players being called up for the FA Inter-League Challenge Cup clash with the Lancashire Amateur League at Newcastle Town FC (3pm).
