Leek open their bid in Derbyshire for another dream Twickenham appearance

LEEK 1st XV will have ambitions of another dream Twickenham appearance when they are thrust into cup action today.

The Cheddleton-based club travel into Derbyshire to face Dronfield in the opening round of the Midland Intermediate Cup – the first step on the trail to the London HQ of England Rugby, where they were beaten by Trowbridge in the national final three years ago.

Leek will be seeking to make up for last year’s bitter disappointment in the competition, when they fell at the first hurdle to another Derbyshire side, Matlock.

However, Leek have a spring in their step this time around, having started the new season in Midlands Two West (North) unbeaten, with two wins and a draw to their credit.
