Police name young man whose ‘unexplained’ death has shocked residents of a Leek housing estate

POLICE inquiries are continuing into the ‘unexplained’ death of a young man on Leek’s Haregate housing estate at the weekend.

The deceased was today named by police as James Powner.

Paramedics were called to an address on Queens Drive shortly before midnight on Saturday, where it was reported someone had collapsed.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Police attended the location and a 23 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A post mortem examination has proved inconclusive.

What was initially a murder inquiry is now being treating by police as an ‘unexplained’ death.

Two men, aged 35 and 44, and a 37-year-old woman who were arrested in relation to the incident have all been released under investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 902 of October 7.
