Blues face a tough hurdle to clear in the next round of the FA Trophy

LEEK Town face a tough challenge at home to Kettering Town in the first qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy at the end of the month.

The tie against the Evo-Stik Southern Premier League leaders will be played at Harrison Park on Saturday, October 28.

Blues will be seeking revenge for their dismissal from the FA Cup by Kettering at the first qualifying round stage at home last season, when they were edged out 3-2 in a close game.

Kettering, affectionately known as the Poppies, have recorded nine wins from their 11 league games to date this season, their only defeat being at Weymouth last month, where they went down 3-1.

Last night (Tuesday) they battled out a goalless draw away to Biggleswade Town to maintain their unbeaten start to their 2017-18 league campaign.

Winners of the FA Trophy first qualifying round ties at the end of the month will each pick up £3,250. Blues pocketed £3,000 for their 4-1 victory over Lincoln United at the weekend.

Looking back at Saturday’s win, Blues boss Neil Baker said: “It’s good to get through but we took a long time in getting there.

“However, we eventually overcame them [Lincon] but should have done it earlier with the good football we produced in the second half. “

Blues return to league action this Saturday with difficult game at home to unbeaten Basford United, who drew 1-1 at home to Gresley FC in their latest outing on Monday night.
