EXTRA police officers are being scrambled to tackle egg-throwing yobs in Werrington.
The move follows complaints from angry residents about a rise in ant-social behaviour in the village.
Police have been bombarded with calls about apples and eggs being thrown at homes and moving vehicles.
Officers will be using newly-introduced dispersal orders enabling them to ban offenders from the village for 48 hours.
A police spokesman said: “Following an increase in calls to our Werrington officers from concerned residents, we will be patrolling the area over the coming weeks to tackle anti-social behviour.
“There have been increased reports of youths gathering in the vicinity, intimidating local residents, and throwing items such as eggs at properties and passing vehicles, some of which have sustained damage in the process.
“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated by anyone in our community and anyone involved will be dealt with accordingly.
“We will continue to work with the local authority on providing a long-term solution to the problem and consideration will be given to the issuing of community protection warnings to repeat offenders.”
