No stopping Kerry in her quest for more success as a veteran cross-country runner

LEEK athlete Kerry Marchant is on course to gain a much-deserved individual medal in this year’s North Staffs Cross-Country League series.

The Staffordshire Moorlands Athletics Club (SMAC) runner heads into the final fixture at Staffs University – December 16 – with 10 points from her three starts: Winsford (fourth), Park Hall (third) and Stafford Common (third).

The 43-year old teaching assistant is also a fully-qualified England Athletics coach .

I have been coaching youngsters for eight years and I am now head coach at the local running club (SMAC),” said Kerry.

Since turning 35, Kerry has won five Midland Masters gold medals on the track and three British Masters medals.

She has also represented Staffordshire 10 times in inter-counties championships.

I run six days a week, including a long Sunday run, one track session and two other sessions, with the other runs being slow recovery runs,” said Kerry.

One of Kerry’s star students at SMAC, Eden Schiller, from Longsdon, won the under-15 girls’ race in the North Staffs Cross-Country League fixture at Stafford Common in a time of 12:52.
