Mourners told crash victim was a popular council worker and motorcycle enthusiast

MOTORCYCLISTS accompanied the cortege of fellow enthusiast Darren Richards to the popular biker’s funeral at All Saints Church in Leek.

Darren died in the hospital the day after his Suzuki machine was involved in a collision with a VW Transporter van on the A53, at Quarnford, on Sunday, October 29.

The 49 year old grandfather, from Leekbrook, was employed by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council as a refuse collector.

Darren’s work colleagues joined family and friends at his funeral service.

District council environment portfolio holder Arthur Forrester and head of operational services Keith Parker were also present.

Vicar of All Saints, Father David Nicol, said: “He [David] was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Tragically his life has been cut short.”

Following the service interment took place at Leek Cemetery.

Darren’s family requested donations be made to the Midlands Air Ambulance and Potteries Pet Food Cavalcade in lieu of flowers.
