Firefighters tackle two lunchtime blazes in the Moorlands

FIREFIGHTERS were despatched to two blazes in the Staffordshire Moorlands within half-an-hour of each other at lunchtime today.

Two crews from Leek and one from  Hanley were summoned to a bungalow fire in Valley Drive, Leek, at around 12.30, and found the property well alight on arrival.

The firefighters removed roof tiles to get to the source of the blaze.

Less than half-an-hour later crews from Hanley, Biddulph and Longton were sent to a blaze at The Wheel Inn, Longsdon.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 12.57pm to the Wheel Inn, and the caller initially thought it was a chimney fire but later said it was believed to be coming from the back rooms.”
