Golf club members a driving force for charity once more

FUNDRAISING for local charities has been in full swing at Greenway Hall Golf.

Club members have handed £2,500 each to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Blurton and the Carole House branch of the NSPCC in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The cash was raised from raffles, an auction, at the club’s charity day in the sumer, and at other events throughout the year.

Jan Matthews of the members’ committee said: “This is our fourth year of fundraising for our two local charities and to date we have raised in excess of £16,000, which is a fantastic effort.”

The club’s oldest member, Harry Whitfield, 93, presented the cheques to Martin Lewis, from the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, and Karen Shenton from the NSPCC.

Members could soon be granted extra time to improve their skills on the club’s driving range.

The project has been recommended for approval at tomorrow’s (Thursday) Staffordshire Moorlands District Council planning committee  meeting –  with the condition the floodlights are used no later than 10pm.
