TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-serving community leader who died on Christmas Day.
Robert Plant served as a local councillor in his home town of Leek for more than 30 years.
He was the Conservative member for Leek West Ward on both Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Leek Town Council.
Born and bred in Leek, Coun Plant was first elected to local government in the 1980s.
He remained a local councillor until the time of his death, at the age of 79, following a long battle with ill health.
Coun Plant served three times as Leek Town Mayor and raised funds for the children’s cancer ward at the then North Staffordshire Hospital and also the Donna Louise Hospice.
District council leader Sybil Ralphs MBE, paying tribute, said: “He took his responsibility very seriously and was a great ambassador for the town and for the Staffordshire Moorlands.”
