Blues face a big challenge to avoid being tied up in Notts

LEEK Town will have to be at their very best when they take on rampant league leaders Basford United away today (Saturday)

Blues have never come away with anything to show from their travels to the Greenwich Avenue ground. They have just a a solitary home draw to show for their efforts in five previous clashes with the Notts side

United, who are managed by former Stoke City player Martin Carruthers, are riding high 21 points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South table.

The odds could not be more heavily stacked against Blues against a side unbeaten in their 24 league games to date – having won 20 of them – and appear to be cruising to Premier Division status next season

Blues boss  Neil Baker said:  “They [Basford] are the Manchester City of our league, if you like, no-one has found a way to beat them and they have set a benchmark for the rest to follow.

“They have players who have been at a higher level and you can tell because they have the consistency to keep winning matches.”

Baker enter the game on the back of a disappointing 3-2 defeat away to Market Drayton Town on New Year’s Day.
