AN elderly woman has lost her life in a house blaze earlier today.
Firefighters from Cheadle and Longton were called to the detached property in Withington Lane near Leigh shortly after eight o’clock this morning.
A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel jet to put out the fire but unfortunately the elderly woman had already passed away. It is believed she also had a dog in the property which has also sadly died.
“The fire has caused some structural damage to the building and so operations have continued from the outside of the property.”
A joint fire investigation will begin with the police once the building is considered safe to enter.
