Rocester suffer cruel defeat on penalties in the Staffs FA Senior Cup

A MUCH-IMPROVED Rocester suffered a cruel defeat at the hands of Stafford Rangers in the Staffs FA Senior Cup at Hillsfield last night (Jan 30).

After courageously battling out a 0-0 draw – their first clean sheet of the season – the Romans bowed out of the competition 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out

Rocester produced a better overall performance throughout, after a run of five successive league defeats, and their teenage goalkeeper Charlie Wood (pictured) was in particularly fine form pulling off a series of excellent saves.

Teams:

ROCESTER: Wood, King, Pratt, Graves, Allen, Ross, Frost, Wesson, Smyth, Brockley, Riddell. Subs: Stewart, Bromley, Nutt, Froggatt.

STAFFORD RANGERS: Whitehouse, Griffiths, K Westwood, Bailey, Brown, Craddock, McDonald, Reid, Waite, D Westwood, Thomas. Subs: Morris, Abadaki, Sherratt, Thompson-Brown, Burnett.
