A 48 year old Stoke-on-Trent man has been charged with a attempted murder following an incident in which a woman suffered multiple stab wounds in Longton earlier this week.
Paul Smith, of Heathcote Road, Longton, appeared before magistrates at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre accused of attempting to murder a 37 year old woman in Foley Road, Longton on Tuesday.
He is also charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a kitchen knife, and also breaching of a restraining order in contacting a victim on January 30.
Smith was detained by firearms officers in North Wales after his car was stopped in Queensferry, Flintshire, following the incident in Longton on Tuesday afternoon.
He was remanded in custody.
The 37 year old stabbing victim is decribed as “stable and recovering” in the Royal Stoke Hospital.
