Woman freed by firefighters and taken to hospital after crash on A520

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to crash on the A520 Cheadle Road on the outskirts of Leek earlier today.

Two cars, a Mercedes A-Class and a Peugeot 206, were involved in collision outside Leek Golf Club, at Birchall, shortly after 11am.

A 69-year-old woman occupant of one of the cars was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital for treatment after complaining of neck and chest pains. An elderly man was also hurt but declined hospital treatment.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We treated a 67 year old man who was in a vehicle that had front-side damage. The airbag had deployed and he got out of the vehicle himself.

“He had a bump on the head and did not want to go to A & E so he was discharged at the scene.”

Firefighters used hydralic equipment cut away the roof of the car so the elderly woman casualty could be safely removed.

The road was closed for several hours.
