New hotel and shops development proposed for Leek

PLANS have unfolded for a major new development in Leek which is expected create 70 around new jobs.

A 60-bedroom hotel and a row of shops are proposed to be built on the Churnet Works site off Macclesfield Road.

The land presently stands derelict adjacent to the Sainsbury’s supermarket.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council planners are expected to announce a decision on the proposals in the next three months.

Some community leaders have raised concerns that the shops development could take away footfall from the town centre.

Argos recently moved out its outlet out of the town centre and onto the Churnet Works site.
