Sweet success for Bassett’s in the Kimberley Trophy

CHARLIE Bassett’s are through to the Northern Area Final of the Staffs FA Sam Kimberley Trophy.

The Dilhorne pub team defeated unbeaten Coors League Division Three leaders Wellington FC 4-1.

The tie was switched to Birchall playing fields after Wellington’s Hanford pitch was declared unfit for play.

Wellington finished the game with 10 men after their goalkeeper was sent off with the score 3-1.

Bassett’s adapted better to the atrocious conditions which worsened as snow and rain continued to fall.

Goals from Ben Dodd 2, Tune and Hyland earned Bassett’s a meeting with Stone Town, Lymedale Athletic or Prince of Wales (Leek) in the Northern Area Final on Sunday, March 11.

The County Final will be played on Tuesday, March 19.

The trophy holders are Sporting Dyers who beat Warstones 6-1 in last year’s final.
