Thursday Sport: Old Boys new league cup semi-final date

THE thrice-postponed league cup semi-final between Premier Division rivals Leek CSOB and Wolstanton United has been rearranged for next Monday (March 12) at Pointon Park, Cheddleton, kick off 7.30pm.

The winners will play Cheadle Town in the final at Newcastle Town FC’s Drayton Beaumont Stadium on Wednesday, March 28.

Wednesday night’s (March 7) results:-

Premier Division: Hanley Town 2, Foley Meir 4.

Division One: Abbey Hulton United 0, Ossma Blurton 2 (Fox 2); Leek CSOB Res 4 (Jamie Pointon 3, Milton Swann), Milton United 1.

STOKE City Ladies, skippered by Meg Bowyer from Leek, have lifted the Staffordshire FA Ladies Challenge Cup for an incredible tenth time.

The Potters beat Sporting Khalsa 2-0 at Stafford Town’s Evans Park ground.

Faye McCoy and Ashleigh Hayes were the Stoke goalscorers.

Bowyer, who was joined in Stoke’s winning line-up by fellow Leekensian Cassie Hyde, said: “We are very proud to make it 10 in a row.”

Horse racing

STAR Ascending will be attempting a fifth win on the trot for Basford Grange trainer Jennie Candlish on the all-weather at Southwell Races today.

The six-year-old, owned by Cheadle businessman Paul Wright Bevans, is entered in the final race on the card, the 1m 3f Betway Apprentice Handicap, which goes off at 5.10.

Young Irish apprentice jockey Connor Murtagh, a 3lb claimer, will be in the saddle.
