Leek’s Victorian market buildings are set for a makeover

LEEK’S two historic indoor markets are set for a major makeover.

The town’s Butter Market and Trestle Market date back to the 1890s.

The Victorian market buildings were last refurbished back in the 1970s and are in need of improvements – including repairs to a leaking roof and better insulation.

Other proposed improvements include redecorating, a new heating system and replacing roof lights, gutters and a double door..

The markets are popular with tourists and are open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays
