A VILLAGE pub saved by the local community is set to re-open this month.
The Auctioneers Arms at Cookshll, near Caverswall, was earmarked to be demolished to make way for a housing scheme before villagers stepped in.
Brian Griffiths, chairman of Caverswall Community Campaign, organised a campaign 19 months ago that went on to raise £350,000, made up in loans and grants, to purchase the 150-year-old inn from the developer.
The pub will now re-launch on Saturday, May 19, after undergoing refurbishment.
Mr Griffiths said: “The whole project from start to finish has been entirely achieved by a team of dedicated volunteers who have given up months of their spare time to raise funds, negotiate the sale and refurbish the pub.
“It’s not just a pub, it’s much more. The locals wanted a pub with a modern feel about it.
The pub is set to become a community hub with a family-friendly café open during the day where families can socialise.
