Village pub re-opens months after its shock closure

A VILLAGE pub in the Staffordshire Moorlands has re-opened after it closed without warning at the end of last year.

Josh Durkin and Samantha Gallagher have moved up from London to run The Red House in Caverswall.

Supportive villagers have spent the last three months painting and decorating the pub to hasten its re-opening.

The Red House is back in business a month after the Auctioneer’s Arms, in neighbouring Cookshill, re-opened after a campaign by Caverswall Community Society to stop it being knocked down.

The group raised £350,000 to purchase the pub from a developer who proposed to demolish the 150-year-old building to make away for housing.
