Local cricketers catch England World Cup fever

WORLD Cup fever is having a knock-on an effect on local cricket fixtures.

North Staffs and Staffordshire League clubs have been given permission to alter start times, so that players can watch tomorrow’s England’s quarter-final clash with Sweden on TV.

Some fixtures will start earlier than the 12.30pm and 1pm scheduled times and will have an extended tea break for viewing.

Leek’s Premier Division home fixture against Stone SP will now commence at 11am, while Ashcombe Park’s home match against Longton will begin at 11.30am.

Knypersley and Moddershall & Oulton, however, will start their match at Tunstall Road at 8am, to ensure the game is completed before England kick off at 3pm.
