Leek Town warm up with a win away to Abbey Hulton United

LEEK Town opened their programme of pre-season friendlies with a 3-1 win away to North West Counties League outfit Abbey Hulton United last night.

With Blues boss Neil Baker away in Russia for the World Cup his assistant Peter Ward took charge.

New signing Tyler Blake, the young former Mansfield Town striker, put Blues ahead after 27 minutes.

The Abbey levelled on the stroke of half-time with an opportunist goal after Ben Chapman had done well to parry a good effort.

Ward made a number of changes for the second half to give every squad member some playing time.

Dan Trickett-Smith and Danny Roberts, both away on holiday, and Rob Stevenson (injured) were the only absentees

Zeph Thomas put Blues back in front five minutes into the second half after Jordan Johnson hit the post. Thomas then added his second and his side’s third goal on 64 minutes.
