Police name fatally injured horse-drawn carriage passenger

POLICE have named the woman passenger who died following a collision involving a horse-drawn carriage on Uttoxeter Road, Hilderstone, on Sunday.

She was 60 year old Valerie Ann Gilbert, from Stone, who passed away at the Royal Stoke Hospital.

Police say no other vehicle was involved.

A 55 year old man who was driving the carriage suffered serious leg injuries.

Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for help to establish the series of events which led up to the collision.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the horse and carriage before 1pm on Sunday should get in touch,” said a spokesman.

They should call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 477 of August 5.
