Mother and young son were victims of horror crash

POLICE have revealed it was a young mother and her younger son who lost their lives in a horrific crash on Uttoxeter Road, Draycott, Blythe Bridge, last Thursday lunchtime.

They were 24 year old Rebecca Smith (pictured) and five year old Corey Rhodes, from Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent.

They were the occupants of a silver BMW car involved in a collision with white Mercedes van on Uttoxeter Road at around 12.45m.

A third occupant of the car, a six year-old-boy, was airlifted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.

Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit are again appealing for witnesses to the collision which occurred at around 12.50pm.

It happened between the Blythe Bridge roundabout and Draycott Old Road, near to the junction with Stuart Road.

Any witnesses of the collision or anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to contact 101, quoting incident number 332 of August 16.
