One goal was enough for a Bank Holiday victory for Blues

Newcastle Town 0, LEEK TOWN 1

LEEK Town made hard work of beating opponents who had lost all four of their opening games – including an early dismissal from the Emirates FA Cup.

The only goal of the game was headed in by Rob Stevenson from a Dan Trickett-Smith free kick after 35 minutes.

Ten minutes earlier Trickett-Smith had seen his poorly taken penalty kick comfortably saved by Matt Johnson in the Newcastle goal.

Blues wasted chances to add to their lead and were thankful for the alertness of goalkeeper Danny Roberts in preserving their slender lead.

Leek Town: Roberts, Green, Kearns, Grocott, Lycett, Bailey, Brazel, Walford, Grice, Tricket-Smith, Stevenson. Subs: Thomas, Johnson, McWilliams, Bavanganga, Chapman.
