Wednesday Sport: Blues head along the FA Cup trail into south Yorkshire

LEEK Town step back onto the Emirates FA Cup trail into south Yorkshire tonight (Sept 12), where they will face Rotherham-based Parkgate in the first qualifying round.

Parkgate play in the Northern Counties East League which is a level below Blues on the FA pyramid.

However, Blues boss Neil Baker is warning his players not to underestimate their opponents, even though they have not won any of their five league games to date.

That’s because after seeing off Sandbach United 2-0 in the extra-preliminary round, Parkgate followed up with a shock 2-0 win away to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League East side Brighouse Town in the next round.

Parkgate demonstrated their liking for knock-out competitions by also disposing of Chadderton 5-2 in the FA Vase recently.

Blues welcome back both Niall Maguire and Matt Bailey back into the squad but Niall Green remains suspended.

Tonight’s winners will pocket £6,000 from the FA Cup and earn a trip National League North leaders Chorley in the second qualifying round on Saturday, September 22.

Should tonight’s tie end in a draw the replay will take place at Harrison Park next Tuesday (Sept 18), replacing the scheduled Integro Cup home fixture against Newcastle Town.

For those travelling to tonight’s game, Parkgate play at Roundwood Sports Complex, Green Lane, Rawmarsh, Rotherham, S62 6LA.

Blues are at home to Ramsbottom United in the Evo-Stik NPL West Division this Saturday.
