Campaigners secure village pub as a community asset.

A COMMUNITY has swung into action to protect their village pub from being lost to possible future development of the Shawe Park Road site.

Residents of Kingsley Holt, near Cheadle, have successfully re-registered the Blacksmiths Arms as an asset of community value with the district council.

It means the Action Blacksmiths group, set up five years ago, will be granted 12 months to raise sufficient money to purchase the pub should the owners put it up for sale.

District councillor Julie Bull said: “It’s good the residents wanted to get the venue registered and I am happy to lend them my support.”

The pub is now protected under the Localism Act until 2023.
